The Rocks Cry Out…

Shaeman called me Sunday morning. From the ER.
Apparently, he was driving to church and nearly passed out from the searing pain of….kidney stones.
Yikes.
Keep him in your prayers. And thank you, Jesus, for Vicatin.

And We’re Off…

(cue the 'Gunsmoke' theme…) In a couple of hours, we'll be loading up a caravan of boats, assorted electronica, sleeping bags, and hopped-up middle schoolers for Camp 7.8 here. Since I'll have limited web access, time, and sleep…this will be my last post for a few days.. Let the espresso drip begin…

Defenders of the Faith?

Geez….as I write this I’m trying to contain my frustration and anger. One of the things I appreciate about writing—either music or blogging—is it provides me a constructive outlet without punching some well- or not so well-intentioned brother square in the nose.
I’m holed up this morning in an undisclosed coffee shop, preparing for preaching/teaching seven [...]

Amazing GOD comics…

Today has been much too crazy to blog anything of depth. We are in our pre-game rituals for middle school camp next week, preparing the band to make it’s full debut next Sunday, as well as me preparing to preach both morning services and teach next week at camp.
So, in lieu of deep, philosophical-theological-homiletical-hermeneutical rantings,….enjoy [...]

Phriday Photos: A Band Of Brothers

I found this picture in a mysterious box in our garage last week. It's of my first CastMaster retreat. Along side my brother and a select other people, these guys are accountability partners, brothers, and friends that are a vital part of my life.

Jesus and the Methlab, Part 4

Part One.
Part Two.
Part Three.

“Have you ever had to worry about THIS? I don’t have the muscle strength to lift a FORK to feed myself! If I trip and fall down, how am I gonna get back up?!?! Jesus is still there for me!” yelled Scott.
Dave rolled up his other sleeve, revealing purple and black needle [...]

Jesus and the Methlab, Part 3

Part One here. Part Two here.
In the spring semester, a guy named Scott entered the dorm. His upper body shriveled with Muscular Dystrophy (the fascio-scapula-humeral kind), Scott was the grinning preacher boy from Shreveport who played golf, loved to fish, and took it as his personal mission to ‘redeem’ Dave from the pits of [...]

Jesus and the Methlab, Part 2

(Part One here)
In time, we became inseparable. Mealtimes. Skipping chapel. Late night runs to Whataburger or The Hot Biscuit. Dave and I really connected with each other. Our love of music and philosophy and our disdain for the evangelical bubble of our school were our bonds.
I went home for Thanksgiving. Dave stayed in the dorm. [...]

Jesus and the Methlab

A few days ago I was up begrudgingly @ 6am, working on my third cup of Halle Berry coffee. I’m sitting in front of my computer screen trying to work up the inertia to get back into my exercise regime, when I stumble back across a blog account of a college girl, Natala, entitled “Jesus [...]

You Protested Harry Potter? What About ‘Pirates’?

It seems as though our inconsistency has been dragged out of the comfortable darkness into the cursed, revealing light.
Not too many years ago, the Christian community was pretty outraged that JK Rowling’s books (and subsequent movies) were hitting the big time and seducing all our children over to the dark side of witchcraft and sorcery. [...]
