…Like The Top Of A Newborn Baby’s Head

Today our youngest son turns 3.

He's awesome. Completely different from our older son, Dylan is an old soul. He's determined and strong-willed…and hilarous.
I can vividly remember the details of his birth. The delivery room at the hospital in Waco. The way he squinted his face when the nursing attendant was cleaning him up.
I also [...]

Caught In The Middle

Visit Paul Middleton's blog.
Some great stuff, even from Oklahoma. Too bad you don't live in Austin, bro. I'd love to hang out…

God: Rock, Paper, Scissors? Seriously…

OK…now I'm forced to add a new category to my blog. File this under Stupid Theology. (The first of many, I'm sure…)
Step One: Beginning in the Garden, God begins telling us who He is: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Step Two: A plethora of pansy, politically-correct liberals [case-in-point: Presbyterian Church (USA)] aren't comfortable in their [...]

Top Ten Signs I Need A Vacation

I didn't realize how bad it was until I started my vacation yesterday…

10. I get up to go to the bathroom at 3am and stop off to check my email.
9. The 3-year-old girl at the HEB starts singing a song from Sesame Street and I join in…because I really like the song.
8. Kirstie [...]

The Jesus Meme

The term "meme" ( [miːm], not "mem"), coined in 1976 by Richard Dawkins refers to a unit of cultural information that can be transmitted from one mind to another. Dawkins said, Examples of memes are tunes, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches.

Thinker/writer Leonard Sweet has written a fantastic article entitled [...]

New Music Tuesday

One of my most favorite things to do on this planet is to go to the Waffle House, eat bacon, and listen to Johnny Cash on the jukebox.  Now, I've got another greasy-spoon soundtrack option in Modern Times.
This is number 31.

That's how many studio albums Bob Dylan has released. This week I've been listening [...]

A Conspiracy of Grace

I'm working on a little side project these days called 'The Heart of Student Ministry'. In reading over some old notes, I found this great quote from guru Mike Yaconelli when I heard him speak the year before he passed away. It's appropriate, not just for ministry, but for living as Christ-followers:

"Real Christians do not [...]

9-11 Remembered…

It's always good to be reminded…

Sept 11 terrorist attacks aired on C-SPAN. Watch it tonite.
And here is a thought-provoking link of what we as Christians have NOT learned from all this.

Photo Phriday

This past Monday (Labor Day), our youngest caught his first fish all by himself.
We were both *extremely* proud.
Fishing license: $0
Ghost Shad Bitsy Minnow: $1.99
Old, Beat Up UltraLight combo: $10
The excitement and grin as pictured above: PRICELESS.

Wanna Wrestle?

I know you can use statistics to say just about anything. After all, Mark Twain was quoted on that. But, in the days where Barna and Gallup rule our instant-information society, you gotta chuckle at this…
Yesterday, I ran across this article about how FAT Christians are, particularly Southern Baptists. The culprit? Use of religious media. [...]
