twlohaIf you're unfamiliar with the goofballs at xxxchurch, take a minute and get familiar with them. There are things happening in their ministry that are truly amazing. Check out their site. Pick up a Jesus Loves Pornstars Bible (which puts NT bibles in the hands of porn addicts, film stars, and patrons of porn expos.) Take the No Ho Pledge, and check out the Starving Jesus project.

I met these guys a few years ago at a Youth Specialties event in downtown Dallas. To be honest, I was skeptical at first–seriously, a couple of guys who are hanging out at porn expos and hanging with Ron Jeremy? Call me weak. Call me a hypocrite. But I'm not sure I could do it and not have issues with sin. But that's me. But I do what I can to support them and their ministry. I've paid for Bibles for the guys to pass out. I've told everyone I know that they need to get their  FREE x3 Watch accountability software installed on their PC. (I have it on mine). I've followed their podcasts and ministry and watched them sincerely reach out to a segment of society that it seems the mainstream church has had a hard time reaching effectively. (Oh, we've reached out to them with picket signs and boycotts and hatred…but that's another story.) 

One of their latest endeavors is involvement in the life of a young drug addict and cutter, Renee. Obviously, the title of the project (and Renee's MySpace page) is a reflection of the movement. Instead of mutilating herself and writing profane and self-inflicting comments on her arms with the sharp edge of a razor blade, the guys are helping  her get the psychological, physical, and spiritual help she needs.

But that's not the end of it. Bands are signing on to the project. Other ministries. Random members of the 40+ billion MySpace legion are encouraging her and seeing that she doesn't fall through the cracks of the Kingdom.

"We often ask God to show up. We pray prayers of rescue. Perhaps God would ask us to be that rescue, to be His body, to move for things that matter. He is not invisible when we come alive. I might be simple but more and more, I believe God works in love, speaks in love, is revealed in our love. I have seen that this week and honestly, it has been simple: Take a broken girl, treat her like a famous princess, give her the best seats in the house. Buy her coffee and cigarettes for the coming down, books and bathroom things for the days ahead. Tell her something true when all she's known are lies. Tell her God loves her. Tell her about forgiveness, the possibility of freedom, tell her she was made to dance in white dresses. All these things are true."

 

As Don Miller says (it's quoted in the above article), " We're called to hold our hands against the wounds of a broken world, to stop the bleeding."
