One of my most favorite things to do on this planet is to go to the Waffle House, eat bacon, and listen to Johnny Cash on the jukebox.  Now, I've got another greasy-spoon soundtrack option in Modern Times.

This is number 31.

That's how many studio albums Bob Dylan has released. This week I've been listening to his newest release, Modern Times. Some things get better with age. Dylan proves that to be true in this project, covering everthing from Alicia Keys to the Garden of Eden.

One of my favorite things to do is to go to the Waffle House, eat bacon, and listen to Johnny Cash on the jukebox.  Modern Times fits that vibe. The lyrics are that of a man who's self-assured and not trying to prove anything. He's comfortable in his own skin and he's telling tales of America. As RollingStone puts it, "The mood is America on the brink–of mechanization, of war, of domestic tranquillity, of fulfilling its promise and of selling its dreams one by one for cash on the barrelhead."

From Thunder on the Mountain:

Feel like my soul is beginning to expand
Look into my heart and you will sort of understand
You brought me here, now you're trying to run me away
The writing on the wall, come read it, come see what it say
  (and)
Thunder on the mountain rolling to the ground
Gonna get up in the morning walk the hard road down
Some sweet day I'll stand beside my king
I wouldn't betray your love or any other thing

From Ain't Talkin', the haunting album closer:

They say prayer has the power to heal
So pray from the mother
In the human heart an evil spirit can dwell
I am a-tryin' to love my neighbor and do good unto others
But oh, mother, things ain't going well

I think I smell bacon.
