Today our youngest son turns 3.

He's awesome. Completely different from our older son, Dylan is an old soul. He's determined and strong-willed…and hilarous.

I can vividly remember the details of his birth. The delivery room at the hospital in Waco. The way he squinted his face when the nursing attendant was cleaning him up.

I also remember how, when I would hold him to my chest, I couldn't keep my lips off his wobbly little head. It seemed like anytime his little head was within a few inches of mine, I automatically kissed him and cradled his 'tiny' little body (he weighed over 9 lbs at birth) in my arms. In the words of Bono, 'Freedom has a scent, like the top of a newborn baby's head'.

During our staff prayer time this morning, God reminded me how much he loves to show His affection to his children as well.

"Do you know how much I love you? Do you know that everytime you come near me, I love to caress you? To touch you? To kiss your little, wobbly head? Do you know that I can't help but love you?"

How much God must love His children. After all, if wicked, fallen, broken Eikon fathers know how to give good gifts to their children, how much more then must a Perfect Father know?

Like a breath of fresh air. Like a cup of cold water. So is the Father's love for His children. He IS love…He can't help it.

Happy Birthday, Dylan! I love you.
