Emerging Worship: Moving Beyond Preaching and Singing

good news:
I'm totally stoked about this session. It starts in about 3 minutes and lasts for 2.5 hours. I'm my expectations for it are pretty high. Experiencing God is always a good thing and my normal schedule hardly ever allows for a 2.5 hour slot to enjoy my creator uninterrupted. I also love the [...]

Friday Night With DCB

And He set me on fire, and I am burning alive. With His breath in my lungs I am coming undone. And I cannot hold it in and remain composed.Love's taken over me and so I propose the letting myself go.

I am letting myself go.You are my joy!
You are my joy!You are my joy!You are my joy!I [...]

PostModernism 101: Almost Everything You Wanted To Know

ahhh…free wifi….Thank you, Jesus.

I'll try some real-time posting during this next session with Emergent posterchild, Tony Jones. But be warned, this will be an on-the-fly, non-linear relay of possibly random thoughts. If it becomes confusing, I'll try to straighten it out after dinner.

We'll get started in a few minutes…(the wifi signal keeps going in and [...]

Experiential Boot Camp

My first session here at the NYWC was one of their early-bird, Critical Concerns Courses. An 8-hour whopper entitled 'Experiential Boot Camp' led by John Losey, of praxistraining.com . John is an interesting guy: scuba diver, Outward Bound trainer, corporate training specialist, and an inviting teacher.
We spent some intense time talking about taking people [...]

Keep Austin [Even More] Weird

One of the things I love about Austin is that it is absolutely the most culturally and religiously diverse place on the face of our little planet. (For those of you outside of the great state of Texas, our motto is 'Keep Austin Weird' … which is a pretty easy thing to do these days…) [...]

Jesus Redux, i.e. Messianic Nut Job

He's a legend in his own mind..
Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda thinks He's Jesus. And he's not the only one.
He's a "59-year-old Puerto Rican man with impish charm and a taste for indulgence. Some defectors, like Regina Albarracin — a Pembroke Pines woman whose son remains a member — liken him to a cult leader. [...]

Things Move Pretty Fast…Part Five.

Finally, I've given in to the loving proddings (nagging?) to friends and family and begun writing a book on student ministry.
More specifically, how to survive student ministry for the long haul.
The struggle is I'm not conviced I have anything to add to the conversation that hasn't already been said. Student ministry is long past [...]

Things Move Pretty Fast…Part Four

I've also recently committed to running in the Austin Marathon, February 18, 2007.

Gad. Never done anything like that before. Thanks to Marathon Rookie, I've gotten a jumpstart on training info. I've been a casual runner for a long time (2-3 miles every few days…just so I can keep my Chuy's and [...]

Things Move Pretty Fast…Part Three

We started The Dive again this past Sunday night.
After a summer semi-hiatus, it's always a struggle to get back into the groove, and it always seems like one of the last things to fall into place is our Sunday pm dive time. We've been walking through 1 Corinthians (rich stuff), and most recently have [...]

Things Move Pretty Fast…Part Two

Our student ministry is awesome. We just brought Steve Howe on board as our new student ministry associate this last week. Awesome guy. Plays guitar. Loves students and Taco Bell. Walks with God. Knows the Word. We've had a fast and furious week of getting him online and settled here in Pville. What a [...]
