Scott,

These could be lyrics for an awesome song. Just taking two of your statements, could really make a rocking tune!

"For the one whom we worship is the author of all truth. If it is true, it flows from our God." Then, "I’m an odd one to speak for “truth”, but it is the utter trustworthiness of our Lord that pulled me into Christianity. And if he were not “true”, he could never be trustworthy.

Wow, you should write that up for Tom to play!.

And, as I also said in the aforementioned small group, those of us who have given our allegiance to the True One who is utterly trustworthy need fear no truth. For the one whom we worship is the author of all truth. If it is true, it flows from our God, whatever the source. If it is not true, it does not.

I sense a lot of fear in many of these fights. And I somewhat understand it. I'm an odd one to speak for "truth", but it is the utter trustworthiness of our Lord that pulled me into Christianity. And if he were not "true", he could never be trustworthy.

Good article. His usage of 'deconstruction' is interesting and struck me as somewhat dissonant, but the thoughts are all good. As you've heard me say (and which I said again at small groups last week), I'm sure that half of what I believe I know is wrong. I just don't know which half. And anyone who is intellectually honest with themselves will say the same.

And I certainly agree that it is deeply 'othering' to criticize from a distance groups of which you are not a part. I believe we can all find plenty to criticize (constructively one would hope) and attempt to improve in the groups in which we currently live.

Right now, much of the American church is neither even a vague facsimile of "one" nor anything that looks much like "love" to me. Exceptions? Sure. Lots of them, especially at the individual level. With the Spirit, how else could it be? Nevertheless, we have enormous room for improvement. And, I think, some urgency to do so.
