you must sit still alot... :)
Portable mp3 players are great for those of us who are always on the go. Now I don't have to think about what CDs to take on a trip..I take them all. (Plus movies, videos, podcasts and vodcasts).

Ahh...Pink and Cowboy Troy. I totally forgot about the girl who's not as tough and hard as she wants us to think, and the 6ft tall black rappin' cowboy...what a circus show!

Cowboy Troy is to Big and Rich as Uncle Kracker is to Kid Rock.

BTW, who or what is Greenday and KORN?

I guess that means I am a mess to start with. Josh wants an Ipod and Allen just wants a tv. They got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas.

What is Pink? She in on Something with a Black Cowboy named Troy.

Am I totally out of the loop or what?

Jimmie,
imagine you\'re listening to U2\'s \'Beautiful Day\'...and you realize that it\'s not much different in message than Rich Mullins\' \'The Color Green\', which leads you to think about his track \'40\' on Lituragy, Leagacy and Ragamuffin Band project, which leads you BACK to U2\'s \'40\'.
You then wonder what kind of conversations Bono must be having with Billie Joe Armstrong and Green Day crew while recording/producing \'The Saints Are Coming\' and how the guitar licks of The Edge come across as biting sarcasm in that tune and what kind of pent up emotion the \'ol Irish lad must have inside of him.
Then your mind (or your soul?) wanders back to Rich and how he must have been a lot like Keith Green on a personal level...then so must Steve Taylor--after all, he wrote \"I Want To Be A Clone\"!
Then you drift to Steve\'s side project Chagall Guevarra and their smash underground hit \'The Big M\' about masturbation...this naturally leads you to wonder what the guys at xxxchurch.com are talking about, so you dial up their latest podcast and see that they are interviewing famous porn star Ron Jeremy.
Hearing Ron reminds you that he was on The Surreal Life (VH1) a couple of seasons back with Tammy Faye Bakker and Vanilla Ice.

Now you\'re at a crossroad: Do you dial up \"Ice, Ice, Baby\" by Rob and his original band, or do you click over to KORN\'s version (it freakin\' rocks)...OR do you follow the Tammy Faye thread and tune in her tattoed son-turned-preacher\'s podcast and let yourself be reminded that Jesus said something about \'the least of these\' and the Kingdom banquet being extended to those in the highways and byways of life...

whew. With your mp3 player you have all this (and a boatload more) at your fingertips.

Maybe it\'s my ADD...but I have nearly 500 CDs worth of music. And now it\'s all in my pocket whenever I need to chase a thread and remember that \'Every Rose has it\'s thorn\' (Poison), but you can get \'Wild in the Streets\' (Jon Bon Jovi) and know that either way, it\'s pretty much all \'Welcome To The Jungle\' (GnR).

OK I must be the last person on earth not to recognize the need for one of these devices. I have a cd player and am happy with it. Maybe I am just a fruit cake.

Is there a way to tell me why I need to get one of these?

I must be lost in the backwoods or something, HELP!

I also had a 20 gig gen 2. I sold it to my sister, Sarah (I thought I could do without it) to help finance the Samson Studio Condenser Mic I bought last year. I was so distraught in my musical silence that I broke down and bought a Shuffle. And yes, I will confirm that constantly loading/unloading is SUCH a pain, but I am no longer in silence.

you must be more disciplined than i am. To sit down and load/unload things takes too much time for me (at least on my pitiful home pc...).

I actually own a little over 30 gb of music (on CD)...now I can put them all on my ipod and have everything at the touch of a finger...and switch whenever my ADD/OCD gets the best of me!

And yet somehow I manage with a 4gb flash MP3 player. (My experience with micro-drives has been less than positive.) ;-) Mostly I just rotate onto it what I want to have available at the time.

But congrats on the no-brainer score. That was an easy choice to make.
