cap10.jpgHeather and I headed out early this morning so I could run in the Capital 10K here in Austin. It was great to run alongside almost 20,000 of my closest friends along some great routes and hills in the Capital City.

My finish time was 1:00:34! (Which averages about a 9:46/m pace) If I'd have known, I'm sure I could have pushed a little harder and gotten done in under an hour. But since this was my first ever 10K, I'm pretty pleased. My goal was to finish in 1:10:00 or less. We actually had a 96-year-old man start the race before the rest of us! Yes, 96! (When I'm 96, I just hope to be in an upright position and not yet assuming room temperature!)

Thanks to The Austin American Statesman for a great Austin tradition. And thanks to my iPod and the following playlist for helping me chug through the streets:

Sirius (The Chigaco Bulls intro…)

Going the Distance (Cake)

Cliffs of Dover, Zap, and The Boogie King (all three by the infamous Eric Johnson)

Going Under, Bring Me to Life, My Tourniquet (Great vocals from Evanescence's Amy Lee)

My Hero (Foo Fighters)

Dolphin's Cry and Where Fishes Go (Live)

Cult of Personality (Vernon Reid's guitar work is supremely underrated!)

I Walk Alone (Oleander)

Last Resort (the great Papa Roach)

Fireproof and Echelon (Pillar)

and My Will Be a Dead Man (Project 86) to bring in the home stretch across the Town Lake Bridge.

(*EDIT: The word I got last night was that I finished around 1.5 minutes ahead of Big Rachel the Fitness Guru…I'll have to verify that before I start talking smack!)
