theology

I really wanted to write this morning, but it’s just not going to happen. Not only is VBS happening downstairs from my office, but the post-camp dust is still settling and my head is not really clear just yet. As a result, I’m posting some GREAT links I’ve been keeping up with the past few days. Drink deep.

The Jesus of Uncool: a great Rolling Stone interview with Chris Martin (Coldplay).

The differences/similarities between leading youth and adults in worship, as told by Sojourn Music’s Jeremy Quillo. Never heard of Sojourn Music? Shame.

This Friday is national Take Your Dog To Work Day. And, yes, there is actually a theme song.

Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology book that I paid way too much for in seminary is now online for free…

I finished Jesus for President this morning. It didn’t change my life, but I did like the mixed-media presentation of the book. Decent book–Jesus was anti-war, anti-oppression (even consumer-imposed oppression), etc. I get it. I’m not sure what I expected exactly, but if He was running for President, I hope I’d vote for Him.

I had the pleasure of hanging out at Rudy’s last night with a long-time ministry buddy (inner-circle-of-friends kind of guy) who was coming through town. Grissom introduced me to Pete Gall, fellow Samson Society brother and author of My Beautiful Idol, who joined us for some great Texas BBQ. Great guy. We’ve got some common ground (and friends) and I hope to hook up again when they come back through Texas on their return tour. Gall gave me a handful of copies of Beautiful Idol, which I’ve passed out and hope to begin reading tomorrow about ‘one man’s struggles as he seeks God as well as hides from Him.’ It looks really good.  I’ll let you know once I get into it.

"Mixing the church and state is like mixing ice cream with cow manure. It may not do much to the manure, but it sure messes up the ice cream."

-Tony Campolo, as quoted in Jesus For President.

all next week, I’ll be in Port A at our high school camp. Get real-time updates and pictures via Twitter so you don’t miss out!

Go here and see what we’re doing.

Even better…sign up for free and get it sent directly to your mobile phone.

For anyone interested, Chuck Palahnuik, author of Fight Club will be in Austin this week.

BookPeople is hosting a discussion (moderated by Sean O’Neal, editor of the Onion!) of his new book, Snuff, and interview June 5. Tickets: $35 and include a free autographed copy of the new book. Rumor is Chuck will be giving away some ‘unique’ prizes that night.

Remember, this is Austin. Who knows what that means….

On Friday, the doctor told me i have some kind of viral laryngitis…he gave me drugs and told me not to speak for a week.

Drugs? Sure.

Not speak for a week?

It’s the week before our high school camp.

I have two small boys.

I lead worship and work in a ‘people’ business.

We’ll see how that goes.

I’m trying to do most of my communication via email, text and Twitter…

…and evidently my brother is having some similar, but more severe, issues… vocal scarring and no talking for 3-4 weeks.

Ouch.

In case you haven’t heard, read the story here.

…because i can not only add feeds to my page, but cool themes from Marc Ecko. (It’s much cooler than the Wiggles one Bart Millard’s kid added to his…)

And if you don’t iGoogle, you should.

Don’t be iLame :)

On Monday evening, I got word that our condos for our high school camp (2.5 weeks away…) will be ‘unavailable’ for us this year. They are WAY behind on their remodel project and just now leaking the news. To say I’ve been swamped the past couple of days is an understatement. But as Papa Chuck taught us, the second rule of student ministry is Be Flexible.  [sigh]

So, in the spirit of flexibility [and ADHD] here are some great links that have caught my attention lately:

The Humility Zone -an essay from iMonk worth reading and digesting

free chart transposing tool…got a chart for a song, but want it in a different key? easy as cut-and-paste..try it!

then what if you can’t play it in the new key? Need to learn some new chords? hit up the guitar chord finder from Look No Hands!

A press release: Obama, Clinton, McCain Join Forces to Form Nightmare Ticket

Can’t wait for Mad Church Disease.

We the people? How ’bout We the church? It’s the simple things that make a difference… whether we see it or not.

Tired of politics as usual? A recent book, We The Purple, explores the growing political independent movement in our country. Hmmmm…..

Enjoy!
